The Empress was built in Pembroke as one of the Royal Sovereign class battleships when Britannia well and truly ruled the waves. She entered service in 1891 but was deemed obsolete soon after. After never firing a shot in anger she was towed out in to Lyme bay in 1913 and used for target practice. Onlookers were amazed at how quickly she sank.
